The Value of Loss Prevention Services

Every Operator is unique and has their own set of challenges and risk exposures. While they do their best to be proactive in mitigating those risks, sometimes the best intentions of compliance are not fully implemented. In the past year, one of our multi-location nursing home clients experienced OSHA inspections at two locations as a result of OSHA’s National Emphasis Program. During the visit, the OSHA representative requested information about the center’s Lockout Program. Upon review, the center was cited for failure to have an adequate plan and received four citations with an initial proposed penalty of $10,000.

The client contacted AssuredPartners NL’s Loss Prevention personnel for assistance. A written program was developed and company-wide training was implemented. This information was also shared with OSHA.

During OSHA’s closing conference, three citations were abated and the initial penalty was decreased to $1,785. During a subsequent OSHA inspection at another center, no citations were found. If the program and training had not been conducted and shared with other centers, the citation could have been deemed as repeat and willful with a corresponding fine of $12,000.
